Dominique Tatum
Dominique Tatum is a senior at Aragon High School. She took the Creative Writing class because she read a lot and thought to give writing a try. She never really considered herself a creative person so she thought it would be a fun challenge. As a writer, she tends to write about powerful feelings and more relatable life experiences. A little known fact about her is that she met Zac Efron at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo when she was six, and that is the most interesting thing that’s happened to her.

Hope is a tricky four letter word
Hope can reveal your deepest desires
Hope can reveal your darkest secrets
Hope can be palpable in your soul
Hope lingers in your thoughts
Hangs off your words like wispy tendrils
Hope is felt as you open that letter from a college
Your heart beating as fast as a hummingbird’s
Wanting to show hope, but unwilling to share it
Praying to see the word “Congratulations!”
Enabling yourself to know it’s okay if you don’t
Hope is felt when your crush walks up to you
Hope is felt in the butterflies you feel when he says your name
When he glances your way and smiles
Hope is when he says, “I want to talk to you”
Your mind starts racing, feeling the butterflies
Until he tells you, “Can you introduce me to your friend….”
Hope is a tricky four letter word
Hope can reveal your deepest secrets
Hope can reveal your darkest desires
Ooops
There sat the sparkly button,
Purple and twinkling under the dim kitchen light,
Drinking my water, I wondered.
“Can I swallow this? No…”
Just pretend
In the button went, sliding down my throat
Smooth
Like a pebble,
water skimming over it
Traveling down my esophagus
Eyes widening
Becoming conscious that it was inside me
I coughed
Naively thinking I could get it up
“Oh well, it's gone”
Walk away
